Communication and Culture
Advising Tips for Prospective Majors
-
The focus of this major is on the cultural study of communication, not on
professional preparation.
- Students should be aware that the
requirements for the major are under revision, and a new structure will most
likely be in place at the time they declare the major.
- The current catalog provides a
good orientation to the focus of the major and to the cross-listed courses.
- The foundation course for the
major is COMM 101: Communication and Culture. There are a few spaces
available for entering first year students, and the course will be offered again in the spring semester.
- Courses with openings as of
August that will provide a good perspective for entering students on what is
meant by the cultural study of communication are:
- COMM 160: Global Cultures and
Identities (cross-listed with Sociology)
- COMM 165: The Arts of Islam
(cross-listed with Art History)
