Scott Sweet (GISDE/M.A.)

Scott Sweet (GISDE/M.A.) works as a consultant on issues related to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). As the Asia-Pacific UNCLOS manager for a Norwegian software company, Geocap AS, his main responsibilities include consulting for coastal states, providing guidance on how to establish maritime boundaries and mapping the outer limits of Continental Shelf that are within their territory.

The GISDE program at Clark prepared me for this job by teaching me that I can do anything I set my mind to. I have learned professional presentation techniques allowing me to essentially ‘sell’ my skills to clients and employers.

On the technical level, I learned skills required to teach myself new software products, apply very complicated spatial/analytical techniques to complex problems, and convey solutions through visually stimulating images and cartographic products.

Everyone loves a nice map, but not that many people can tell a complicated story of analysis in a way that is simple and understandable. That is the power of GIS and what the GISDE program is good at teaching students.
