IDCE Students Profiles
Amar Azucena Cid (CDP ‘08)
As a CDP student, Amar Azucena Cid (CDP ‘08) challenged herself to take a wide range of courses, work part-time, and participate in many extra curricular activities.
The courses I took helped to strengthen my ability to look at how community planning needs a holistic approach, bringing housing, transportation, nutrition, and diverse populations to the table.
Amar’s many student projects ranged from interviewing Puerto Rican/Dominican residents in Main South, Worcester to articulating how entertainment is changing neighborhood dynamics in San Francisco to developing an economic development plan for a rural town in New Hampshire. Amar notes,
One course, Geography of Urban Transportation, sparked my interest in transportation equity, which has helped me in my current position as a Transportation Planner with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in the Division of Mass Transportation.
There she is assisting in the development of California’s first Statewide Strategic Transit Plan that will assist Caltrans in reaching consensus on a common mission and setting achievable goals.
