Sarah Elliott
GISDE/M.A. '04
1. Please describe your present professional position? Please include the URL
of your organization.
I'm currently a Senior GIS Analyst with the
Shaw Group. We were recently profiled in a recent article in Washington CEO magazine. You can view the article here.
2. Why should prospective students enroll in the GISDE program at Clark
University?
If you are working in the GIS industry, a MA from Clark will open a lot of doors
for you. It gives you a competitive edge necessary to survive in a highly
competitive industry. Moreover, you will have an opportunity to think beyond how
to maintain data and use software. You will have the chance to address real
world problems.
3. Did you have an internship as part of your Clark education? If so, how did
it help to connect you to your current career?
No, I had previous work experience. I don't recommend an internship for graduate
students, I think they need the experience before they come to Clark. It allows
them to get more out of Clark. I was able to work part time, that was helpful in
more ways than one.
4. What was the topic of your research while at Clark University?
Mapping and Monitoring the Composition of Kansas City, Missouri, Using the
Vegetation - Impervious Surface Soil (VIS) Model with Spectral Mixture Analysis
(Advisor: John Rogan)
Additional Project: Predicting the Vulnerability of Populations in Sudan to the
Guinea Worm Parasite using Dempster-Shafer Weight-of-Evidence Theory
(co-investigator Arpad Lazar, Advisor:
J. Ronald Eastman)
