Application Information
The IDCE department stresses a cross-disciplinary approach linking geography, economics, government, history, anthropology, and the environmental sciences. IDCE masters degree programs offer opportunities for present or future development professionals to move from entry-level positions to career-track opportunities. Each program requires a minimum of 12 course units as well as a final project, research paper or critical review paper. Many students gain additional experience through an internship, overseas research project, or applied training.
Most students in the MA in Geographic Information Sciences for Development and Environment complete the program in three semesters, although some prefer a two-year schedule. Exceptionally qualified students may complete the program in a 12-month intensive track. All tracks begin in mid-to-late August.
The application deadline for fall admission to IDCE is January 15. Applications may be considered for any of the four programs after the deadline has passed. Please contact the Admissions Office for availability. In general, decision letters will be mailed the third week in March. We look for your decision in mid-April. Then, we welcome the IDCE class in late-August. Exact dates will change each year.
