    PROFILE

    Research Interests

    Risk analysis, risk communications, public health issues, including HIV/AIDS, TB, and child health and vaccines, particularly focusing on the socio-cultural and political determinants of health, including the role of religion and belief systems

    HEIDI LARSON recently published “Achieving Millennium Development Goals for Health: Building Understanding, Trust and Capacity to Respond”in Health Policy (April 2007) co-authored with Tim Downs; Why Invest in Communication for Immunization? with Silvio Waisbord; a chapter on “Child Health,” with Richard Skolnik, in a new textbook called Essentials of Global Health; Beyond 2000: Responding to HIV/AIDS in the New Millenium with Jai Narain from the WHO; and Tsunami: Helping Each Other, a children’s book on the humanitarian response to the 2004 tsunami.

    Larson is the coordinator of the AIDS 2031 Consortium and also serves on the Board of the Consortium for Communication for Social Change, which works to build local capacity of people living in poor and marginalized communities to use communication to better their lives.
