Clark University’s English Department is a close-knit community of students and faculty who are passionate about the written word. Join us at Anderson House — our cozy Victorian-era home — where we gather for classes, events, and impromptu conversations on everything from Shakespeare to science fiction.
We offer a major and minor in English and a minor in creative writing. You’ll gain knowledge and skills that can be applied to a myriad of fields, from business and law to education and nonprofit work.
Our master’s degree in English imparts disciplinary practices for studying literature, reading closely, and integrating research.
Our faculty focus on key periods, themes, and genres across English literature, applying a wide range of critical approaches. Students develop theses, working closely with faculty mentors.
A degree in English or a minor in creative writing provides a solid foundation for many fields. To gain experience, take advantage of Clark’s resources, tools, and funding opportunities for internships, research, and creative projects.
The English Department sponsors annual writing contests that are open to all Clark undergraduate students, including those enrolled in the School of Professional Studies. All work must be completely original.
