Andrew Caiazzo, Undergraduate '09
Research Interests:
My research interests lie in the field of land-cover change in general,
and forest losses as a result of urbanization in particular. I have always been
interested in forest ecosystems and through my time at Clark my interest has
focused to forest losses. I am focused on the applications of remote sensing
for land-change detection. This past year with the Massachusetts Forest
Monitoring Program (MaFoMP) has been the greatest learning experience I have had
while at school. I have been challenged in ways I never expected and have
enjoyed every second of it. This past school year I have been working on a
Senior Honors Thesis to quickly and accurately detect land-cover change through
a new method of map updating. My research also seeks to conduct a cross-sensor
analysis between Landsat and ASTER. I recently had the privilege of presenting
my work at the 2009 annual meeting of the Association of American Geographers
(AAG) in Las Vegas, Nevada. I will be graduating in May with a degree in
Geography at which point I will begin my Masters’ in the GIScience 5th year
program.
Personal:
Outside of school, work, music, and physical fitness are a major part of my life. I
have played the guitar for the past seven years and work on increasing my skills
whenever possible. I also enjoy any physical activity that allows me to spend
time outside be it frisbee, bike riding through Worcester, a great round of
golf, or just going for a relaxing walk.
