From Memories to the Table: My Pontic Greek Family Journey

Speaker Bio

Panagiotis Karafoulidis, or Chef Panos, was born in Thessaloniki. He studied Culinary Arts in 1995 in Rhodes, Greece and worked during that period in different hotels and restaurants around the Dodecanese Islands, Chalkidiki and Thessaloniki. During the recent 17 years, his professional identity was focused on Education and Gastronomy Writing, through the position of the Head of Education of Culinary and Pastry Arts. In the meantime, he participated in several International Gastronomy Contests with honors, as a member of the Hellenic Chefs Federation and participated as a guest chef at Thessaloniki’s Convivium of Slow Food Conferences, with themed events based on Greek products. Panos served as the chef and food historian for the Clark summer study abroad program in 2024, “Food, Migration, and Belonging in Thessaloniki.” Panos now runs a culinary tour agency, Gastro Routes, based in Thessaloniki, Greece.
