Biological waste is defined as any waste derived from a living thing or that comes into contact with living things. Clark University’s laboratories do not handle any infectious agents, and all the biohazards produced can be treated with either a 10% bleach solution or by autoclaving.
Bleaching
Ideal for the clean up of a biological spill. Please note that bleached materials cannot be autoclaved. Dispose of bleached waste by placing it in the regular trash.
Autoclaving
Any solid, semisolids and contaminated materials should be placed inside a hazardous waste bag. The bag must be sealed and labeled before it is brought to Chris Ewald in The Lasry Center for Bioscience (Room 135) for autoclaving.
