Publicity for Events

University Communications publicizes Clark events to the campus community and the general public. The sooner you contact University Communications with your final event information, the more effectively media relations staff can spread the word. If you seek external publicity, at least four weeks notice is best if you want the local media to announce your event.

Once you have confirmed the details of your event, please send the following information to the Campus Digest and the Media Relations Officers, Angela Bazydlo and Jane Salerno.

  • Date
  • Time (beginning and end)
  • Place
  • Title
  • Speaker (if applicable)
  • A brief description
  • Cost
  • Contact name and phone number

Publicizing your event on campus

Clark's online calendar
Clark has a universitywide calendar of events on the Web. The calendar includes events sponsored by student organizations, academic departments, administrative offices and some outside organizations, such as Cinema 320. Unlike printed calendars, the locations, dates and times posted to the online calendar can be changed at any time.

To post events to the calendar
E-mail your event information to cucalendar@clarku.edu, or mail it to Calendar, University Communications. Please specify if the event is open to the public or just to the Clark community. Contact University Communications if the location, date or time of an event changes, or if the event is postponed or canceled.

Campus Digest Submissions and Deadlines
Campus Digest is issued to faculty and staff through Clark e-mail once a week on Mondays. The deadlines to submit information for each issue is one week prior to the issue date. Submissions should be sent in a word processing text document attachment or typed into the body of the e-mail; graphic documents or PDFs will not be accepted. However, a low-resolution JPEG photo may be submitted with the text for consideration.

  • To publicize an upcoming Clark event, please submit information to Campus Digest. Events are posted to Clark's online calendar and promoted through Campus Digest.
  • Please submit items for Human Resources News to Anne Fredette.
  • University News, Faculty Notes, Staff Notes and Department Bulletins items should be submitted to Campus Digest.
  • To post an item on the Marketplace, e-mail Campus Digest with the name of the item, description, asking price, and contact information so interested parties can reach you (name, number, e-mail). Please type "Marketplace" in the subject line of the e-mail.

Publicizing your event off campus

If your event is open to the general public, University Communications staff can submit information about the event to local and regional newspapers. Information must be submitted at least four weeks prior to the event, in order to meet newspaper deadlines. If possible, send a JPEG photo of the speaker or an image related to the event, as it may encourage advance publicity. Also indicate if your speaker is willing to be interviewed by the press prior to or directly after your event.

To submit information for off-campus publicity:

Please forward your event information to Jane Salerno or Angela Bazydlo. Please be aware that with the many events on campus and the unpredictable nature of the news media, advance publicity for or actual coverage of your event cannot be guaranteed.
