Every fall, students in Professor Kristina Wilson\u2019s art history course get a unique opportunity to share their ideas \u2013 researching and producing a podcast for a museum audience. The course, Art, the Public, and Worcester\u2019s Cultural Institutions, partners with the Worcester Art Museum to produce episodes for WAMxUniversity<\/a>, a podcast series focused on works in the museum\u2019s collection. The episodes become part of WAM\u2019s permanent marketing efforts \u2014 heard by visitors, researchers, and anyone curious about the art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students work directly with WAM curators, provenance specialists, and digital content producers who visit the class. The research is rigorous: students comb through object files, read museum theory, and develop original arguments about their chosen works before ever recording a word. Carson Dobos \u201925, studying John Singer Sargent\u2019s portrait \u201cLady Warwick and Her Son,\u201d discovered something unexpected when the class listened back to prior years\u2019 episodes. \u201cI\u2019ve found myself hearing both familiar voices and not-so-familiar voices,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s become an archive of all the art history students.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt brings more voices into the spaces of their galleries,\u201d says Wilson \u2014 and gives students the experience of taking a public stand on what they see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
