Our graduate program ensures students receive extensive research training that builds cumulatively from foundational and more heavily mentored experiences to more independent activities, like building a research portfolio and dissertation research. Much of our faculty and student research takes place within community settings, locally or internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through lab work, graduate students collaborate among faculty, their cohorts, and undergraduates. Graduate students present their work at external conferences such as the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/meeting.spsp.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Society for Personality and Social Psychology<\/a>, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispp.org\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">International Society of Political Psychology<\/a>, or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.spssi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues<\/a>&nbsp;and at Clark\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.clarku.edu\/research_graduateconference.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Graduate Student Multidisciplinary Conference<\/a>, and publish in journals like&nbsp;<em>Feminism and Psychology<\/em>, the&nbsp;<em>Journal of Social Issues<\/em>, and&nbsp;<em>Psychology of Men and Masculinity<\/em>.&nbsp; Graduate students\u2019 scholarship, along with our faculty\u2019s research, is diverse both in theory and method, which is a mark of distinction and strength across our department\u2019s three programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our faculty has guest-edited special issues in the Journal of Social Issues as well as the European Journal of Social Psychology and founded the<em>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jspp.psychopen.eu\/index.php\/jspp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Journal of Social and Political Psychology<\/a><\/em>. Their research and expertise have been recognized with funding from the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>, the American Psychological Association, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the heart of our research are the program and department\u2019s research groups, forums, and lab meetings where faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students discuss common theoretical concerns and research interests. We focus on stigmatized attributes that are visible, such as race and gender, and those that are concealable, such as mental illness, sexual minority status, and HIV\/AIDS. Through an intersectionality framework, we explore how intersections of race, class, gender, and sexual oppression can be used to address important issues in psychology.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/li><li class=\"wp-block-post post-721 post type-post status-publish format-standard hentry category-social-psychology-research\">\n<div class=\"entry-content wp-block-post-content is-layout-flow wp-block-post-content-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group boxout has-white-background-color has-background is-vertical is-content-justification-left is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-2dea860b wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading clear has-dark-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-9e11eb1f73165e5334fe42e99f37314f\" id=\"h-beyond-binary-social-cognition-lab\">Beyond Binary Social Cognition Lab<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jessicajglazier.com\/research\">Beyond Binary Social Cognition Lab<\/a> conducts research that challenges norms and common assumptions that people hold about social categories (e.g., gender, race, sexual orientation, etc.), such as the assumption that gender is binary, that racial categories are discrete, or that everyone experiences sexual attraction.
