We focus on stigmatized attributes that are visible, such as race and gender, and those that are concealable, such as mental illness, sexual minority status, and HIV\/AIDS. A central theme of her research is the decentering of any \u201cnormal\u201d or \u201ctypical\u201d family, sexuality, or gender, to allow room for diverse families, sexualities, and genders. For the past 20 years, she has been conducting a longitudinal study of lesbian, gay, and heterosexual adoptive families.
