For Faculty & Advisers

Information and Resources for Faculty

Faculty members can be some of the most significant influences to a student’s decision to study abroad and are vital in supporting the international goals of Clark University’s mission statement:

“Clark is dedicated to being a dynamic community of learners able to thrive in today’s increasingly interrelated societies. The University maintains a national and international character, attracting high-caliber students and faculty from all quarters of the globe.”

Assisting Students

Students may come to you for assistance in a variety of forms

  • Application Reference:  Students may come to you requesting a letter of recommendation for their program.  Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about how to do this.
  • Course Credit Approval Form: All students must have this form signed by their primary faculty advisor, even if they are NOT requesting any major credit
    • If a student is requesting major credit, that column should be initialed by the appropriate advisor.
    • PLS’s may be taken abroad and waivers should be approved by the Dean of the College’s office.
    • Students are responsible to know exactly how their credit should transfer back to Clark when they return to campus.
    • Students are asked to choose *more* courses then they might need in case a class is cancelled or full, just like on campus.  Often, there is an add/drop period on the program and students may email with follow-up from abroad with any changes.
  • Supervisory: Many of our programs have a research or other active learning component. A student may ask you to be a supervising professor and to sign a research paper agreement. It is important that the student communicate to you the time commitment involved and that both you and the student agree on the exact parameters of the agreement.
  • Campus Internationalization: Faculty members can help facilitate the process of re-entry and integrating learning and developing global competence.
