Clark University supports an extensive information technology environment for faculty, staff, students, and other members of the University community. The University’s general policies and codes of conduct apply to the electronic environment just as they apply in all other University settings.

Please carefully review the Policy for Appropriate Use of Clark’s Information Technology System, and keep the following points in mind when using Clark accounts and posting content to web and social media:

  • Do not use University resources (including, for example, email, web pages, or social media channels) to defame, harass, intimidate or threaten any other person(s), or to promote bigotry or discrimination.
  • Do not publish, post, transmit, or otherwise make available content that is copyrighted, obscene, or legally objectionable.
  • Do not forge, maliciously disguise, or misrepresent your personal identity. These guidelines do not prohibit users from engaging in anonymous communications (e.g., as an anonymous department webmaster or helpline), providing that such communications do not otherwise violate the Policy for Appropriate Use of Clark’s Information Technology System.
  • Do not violate copyright laws. As Clark’s policy states, “you should assume materials you find on the Internet are copyrighted unless a disclaimer or waiver is expressly stated. If you do not abide by these legal and contractual restrictions, you may be subject to civil or criminal prosecution.” Examples of protected materials include written material, sound files, pictures, photos, animations, and software not originally created by you.
  • Although the Policy for Appropriate Use of Clark’s Information Technology System allows for open and free expression, it also states that you may not use “University IT resources for political or personal economic gain (except as covered by the University’s Intellectual Property Policy.”
  • Do not use Clark email or department web or social media accounts for fundraising activities not endorsed by University Advancement or covered by the University’s Intellectual Property Policy.
