Identity, Student Engagement, and Access Scholarships
Due to generous alumni gifts, Identity, Student Engagement, and Access is able to offer a limited number of annual scholarships to support students in accomplishing their goals. Students of color and/or first-generation Clark University undergraduate students may apply for these scholarships in order to make co-curricular experiences (internships, research opportunities, study abroad or away) more financially accessible. The number of scholarships and the amount awarded will vary based on factors including, but not limited to student financial need, the strength of the student proposal, and the number of requests received. The maximum amount that a student may receive during their time at Clark University through ISEA is $2,500.
Commonly funded experiences might include:
- Support with accommodation costs during a low-paid or unpaid internship, internationally or domestically
- Costs affiliated with living experiences while participating in an academic research fellowship
- Supplemental funding required for a LEEP project
- Financial support for Visa costs related to international research or internships or study abroad
- Travel costs affiliated with a study abroad experience
Please Note
This is not funding meant for short-term professional development opportunities such as a conference or weekend retreat.
Requirements
As a required component of receiving these scholarships, students will be expected to submit a thoughtful 2-3 page reflection at the culmination of the experience. The reflection paper should address how the experience (such as study abroad, internship, or research) enhanced their leadership, professional or academic goals, accompanied by 2-3 images* that encapsulate the experience. Please note that this reflection may be shared with others in the community. Students will also be expected to support ISEA efforts to enhance future participation in these programs or grants, such as sitting on a panel, hosting a TED talk on their experience, and/or promoting resources via a social media campaign, as their schedule allows.
*Images and materials submitted may be used to promote these opportunities at Clark.
Eligibility
Students applying for these scholarships must be currently enrolled undergraduates at Clark University in Worcester, MA, and identify as first-generation and/or students of color. Priority will be given to students who have taken advantage of and supported other resources offered through ISEA, as well as students who have been actively engaged in identity-based student organizations.
Although it is not required that you have accepted a position offer prior to applying, all recipients will need to submit documentation from their internship site/employers within a specified period of time after notification decisions have been released. Those who cannot provide this documentation within a reasonable timeline may forfeit these funds.
As noted previously, students who have already received the full funding amount ($2,500) will not receive more funding, with the exception of highly unusual circumstances.
To apply for funding for study abroad, internships, or research, you will need to complete this online application, which includes an uploaded budget request.
