The students have designed new logos for the gallery, which is located just steps from campus inside <a href=\"https:\/\/wcuw.org\/\">WCUW 91.3 Community Radio<\/a> at 910 Main St.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<aside class=\"wp-block-group alignright boxout has-white-color has-dark-purple-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-6efc3fc555cd1c93436b92872ada9487 is-content-justification-left is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-12dd3699 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hone-your-creative-skills\">Hone your creative skills<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/departments\/visual-and-performing-arts\/\">Study in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/programs\/minor\/entrepreneurship-and-innovation\/\">Minor in entrepreneurship and innovation<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/student-life\/involvement\/arts-at-clark\/\">Explore the arts at Clark<\/a><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n\n\n\n<p>The gallery honors the late Harold Stevens, who left a bequest to the radio station after his death in 2022. The gallery opened two years later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe mission of the Harold Stevens Gallery is to showcase emerging and established artists while serving as a community space for exhibitions, performances, screenings, and educational events, reflecting the gallery\u2019s creative energy and community-centered spirit,\u201d says Ann Souza, a WCUW board member and co-curator of the Harold Stevens Gallery. \u201cIncluding Clark students in the project was especially meaningful because it gave student artists and designers the opportunity to participate in a real-world creative collaboration. It also honored the history of WCUW, which was born on the Clark campus, making the partnership both creatively and historically significant.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students participating in the logo-design project were part of Freyermuth\u2019s Identity in Practice course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"612\" height=\"792\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/HSG-Logo-1.jpg\" alt=\"logo\" class=\"wp-image-28749\" style=\"aspect-ratio:0.7727293328498912;width:305px;height:auto\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The winning logo design by Sophie Lee &#8217;26. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The logos were displayed at the gallery from April 20 to 23, and visitors could vote on their favorite designs. Students promoted the show and wrote and disseminated a press release, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/academics\/the-clark-experience\/\">experiential learning opportunity<\/a> that demonstrated how to work with clients and accept feedback. During a gallery reception on April 22, students showed off their concepts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophie Lee \u201926, a studio art major, won the popular vote for her design.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI wanted something simple and straightforward that still felt like it had a unique touch, which led to me experimenting with overlapping letters,\u201d she says.&nbsp;\u201cI opted to focus on typography rather than imagery, because I thought it would be a better way of encapsulating the gallery&#8217;s wide array of artists and shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1560\" height=\"1040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2025-Entrepreneurship-Fair-NH-00-23.jpg\" alt=\"student sitting at table with jewelry\" class=\"wp-image-28751\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.5000439908499033;width:304px;height:auto\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sophie Lee &#8217;26 at an entrepreneurship fair in 2025. Photo by Natalie Hoang \u201925, MBA \u201926 <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Determining the perfect spacing for the letters was Lee\u2019s biggest challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was super excited to learn that I won the popular vote,\u201d she says. \u201cThere were a lot of really strong contenders, and I felt that it could have gone to any one of my peers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Souza says Lee\u2019s logo helps create a stronger and more recognizable visual identity, \u201ccommunicating the gallery\u2019s mission across exhibitions, outreach, events, and digital platforms, reinforcing its role in Worcester\u2019s contemporary arts community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Manny Torto \u201927, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/programs\/major\/business-administration-bs\/\">business administration<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/programs\/major\/music-ba\/\">music<\/a> major who makes his own album and song covers, chose a simple style for his design. Torto\u2019s design bears the text Harold Stevens Gallery at WCUW in a bold font framing a silhouette of Harold Stevens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHis figure, his relaxed posture, I felt would really resonate with people, especially the people who knew him personally,\u201d he says. \u201cI felt like I met Harold Stevens without actually meeting him, because you can feel a sense of his being and his legacy in the space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Torto says he often sought input from his peers during the design process and feels more confident in his skills now. \u201cThe biggest challenge for me was toning things down,\u201d he says. \u201cI overcame that by getting feedback and constantly asking questions like, \u2018How could I make this better?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1812\" height=\"1208\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/Graphic_Arts_Show_22_APR_2026-7.jpg\" alt=\"student shows off work at gallery\" class=\"wp-image-28744\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Manny Torto \u201927<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1717\" height=\"1144\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/Graphic_Arts_Show_22_APR_2026-11-1.jpg\" alt=\"graphic in gallery show\" class=\"wp-image-28745\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Work by Manny Torto \u201927<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the gallery space is an \u201copen window\u201d for emerging artists, Beverly Peterson \u201926, a studio art major, went with a window-like design for her project featuring rectangular panes. This was her first graphic design project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis was very new to me, so there was a lot of back-and-forth with the programs that I was using, like InDesign and Illustrator. It was difficult, but I worked my way through it,\u201d says Peterson. \u201cI am 100 percent a better graphic designer than I would&#8217;ve been before I took this class. I think it was a valuable learning experience. I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m the best graphic designer in the world, but I am proud of where I ended up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to Lee, Torto, and Peterson, students exhibiting logos were John De-Andrade \u201926, Danny Goodman \u201928, Leo Gordon Bullion \u201927, Vicky Liu \u201926, Andy Loverde \u201926, Owen McNally \u201928, Owen Reimold \u201928, Stazi Salazar \u201926, and Chloe Venkitachalam \u201926.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns alignwide is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div
