Washington Monthly’s just-released September\/October issue offers “a different kind of ranking.” The editors contrast their rankings against others, which often include measures based on wealth, exclusivity, and prestige to determine rankings. “Instead, we rate schools based on what they are doing for the country—on whether they’re improving social mobility, producing research, and promoting public service.”<\/p>\n

In its third appearance in the Washington Monthly’s annual ranking, Clark took the 95th spot on the National Universities Rankings category.<\/p>\n

Here are highlights of the University’s standings in the guide’s breakout measures (all relative to the school size): Clark ranked 2nd in the number of alumni currently serving in the Peace Corps; 7th in service staff, courses and financial aid support; 33rd in the number of undergraduate alumni who have gone on to receive a Ph.D. in any subject; 39^{th<\/sup> for number of faculty in national academies (five Graduate School of Geography<\/a> faculty members have been members of the prestigious National Academy of Sciences while appointed at Clark); and 63rd in community service participation and hours served.<\/p>\n}
