Sackler Sciences Center now number only two. Crews braved a driving rain Tuesday to remove the diseased tree before it became a hazard.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_5015\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5015\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-5015 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/IMG_2856-225x300-2.jpg\" alt=\"stump of the tree that was removed\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-5015\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A look at the stump of the tree that was removed from the quad Tuesday.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Biology Professor David Hibbett, PhD, chronicled both the demise of the tree and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hibbettlablog.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/10\/pleurotus.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unusual mushrooms<\/a>&nbsp;that grew on its trunk in blog posts published in October 2014 and May\/June 2015. The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hibbettlablog.wordpress.com\/2015\/05\/31\/death-in-the-kresge-quadrangle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">most recent post<\/a>&nbsp;showed images of the tree standing with bare limbs next to its counterparts featuring branches filled with leaves. According to Hibbett&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/hibbettlablog.wordpress.com\/2014\/10\/29\/disappearing-trees\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October post<\/a>, several other similar trees near the campus have died or are dying.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>The Clark community shared memories of the tree after this photo was posted on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/89555183497\/photos\/a.90973618497.83522.89555183497\/10153503005263498\/?type=1&amp;theater\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">University&rsquo;s Facebook page<\/a>&nbsp;with several users saying they spent time learning or just watching the world go by while sitting beneath the tree.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5014 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/IMG_2858-225x300-2.jpg\" alt=\"photo of the tree's stump\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p>Others expressed their dismay over the tree&rsquo;s death.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Oh no, I always liked that tree,&rdquo; Sarah Bilotta said.<\/p>\n<p>Hibbett, who wasn&rsquo;t on campus this week to see the removal, said there&rsquo;s a plan to polish a slice of the tree and make it into a university timeline using its annual rings.
