The Cohen-Lasry House at Clark University: The elegant, turn-of-the-century villa became home to the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies in 1999, with renovations and a contemporary addition by award-winning\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/\">Clark University<\/a> welcomes architect <a title=\"Julian Bonder\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rwu.edu\/academics\/schools-and-colleges\/saahp\/faculty\/julian-bonder\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Julian Bonder<\/a>, Deborah Martin, professor of <a title=\"Geography Department\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.clarku.edu\/departments\/geography\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">geography<\/a>, and Kristina Wilson, professor of <a title=\"Art History\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/programs\/major-or-minor-art-history\">art history<\/a>, to start a discussion of how communities address painful legacies through memorial construction, entitled &#8220;Recognizing Painful Legacies through Memorial Construction.&#8221; The lecture will take place at <strong>7:30 p.m.<\/strong> on <strong>Wednesday Nov. 18<\/strong> in the <strong>Higgins Lounge at Dana Commons.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The renowned <a href=\"http:\/\/memorial.nantes.fr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Memorial to the Abolition of Slavery<\/a> in Nantes, France, a port from which hundreds of Atlantic slave-trading expeditions set forth, created by Bonder, will serve as the cornerstone of the discussion. The group will also discuss Bonder&#8217;s Holocaust related work and other memorials to mass atrocity.<\/p>\n<p>Bonder was the architect for the Cohen-Lasry House, home to the <a title=\"Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies\" href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/academics\/departments-and-schools\/holocaust\">Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies<\/a> at Clark University.<\/p>\n<p>Read more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/departments\/holocaust\/about\/cohenlasry.cfm\">Cohen-Lasry House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Bonder teaches at the School of Architecture at Roger Williams University. A descendent of Ukrainian immigrants, Bonder escaped the Holocaust by moving to Argentina and growing up in both New York and Buenos Aires. He has given keynote addresses around the world, most notably the Fourth Annual Human Rights Conference in Lima, Peru and Denver in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>The event is <strong>free <\/strong>and <strong>open to the public<\/strong>; a reception will follow.
