Spencer Cronin ’18 and Hannah King ’19 are spending the summer interning for Facing History and Ourselves<\/a> in Brookline, continuing their studies and conducting research with the help of stipends they received from Clark’s Holocaust and Genocide Studies Program.<\/a><\/p>\n Spencer Cronin ’18\n

Cronin, a history<\/a> major, is developing programs of Holocaust and genocide studies education for secondary schools across the country while at the nonprofit organization.<\/p>\n

“I am very much looking forward to being a part of one of the leading Holocaust and genocide studies education programs in the country, and am excited to learn more about how their organization functions,” he said.  At Clark, Spencer is engaged in research on the history of Holocaust education in secondary schools.<\/p>\n

Hannah King ’19<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

King, a sociology<\/a> major, has focused her attention on racial inequality in K-12 education, however, she discovered another passion after she took The Sociology of Genocide with Professor Shelly Tenenbaum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“[The course] helped me realize my passion for learning about — and hopefully, one day preventing — genocides,” King said.<\/p>\n

Cronin’s internship is made possible by the Arthur and Rochelle Belfer Fund for Scholars of Holocaust Studies; King’s internship is being funded by the Doris Tager Summer Stipend Fund.<\/p>\n

Tenenbaum, director of the Holocaust and Genocide Studies undergraduate program, said that “working with this leading organization devoted to curriculum development and teacher training in the field of Holocaust and genocide studies will complement Spencer and Hannah’s academic work.”<\/p>\n

According to Tenenbaum, the summer internships will provide both students with “new lenses for evaluating scholarship.”<\/p>\n

The Holocaust and Genocide Studies program has offered summer internship stipends every year since 1999. Students are awarded the internship stipend on the basis of their academic record and internship proposal.<\/p>\n
