Pulitzer Prize-winning author Megan Marshall<\/a> will speak about her recent biography and memoir, “Elizabeth Bishop: A Miracle for Breakfast<\/a>,” at Clark University at 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 12,in Tilton Hall.<\/p>\n

Marshall is the first Charles Wesley Emerson College professor at Emerson College. She studied under Elizabeth Bishop<\/a>, a Worcester-born and highly celebrated American poet and short story writer, while a student at Harvard University in 1976. Marshall’s book weaves biographical chapters with pages of her own memoir, which also touches on family, poetry and loss.<\/p>\n

Marshall’s is only the second full-scale biography of Bishop, and the first to appear in 25 years. Dana Gioia of The American Scholar<\/em>, writes that Marshall’s is “the most intimate and accurate biography yet available.”<\/p>\n

Marshall’s first biography, “The Peabody Sisters: Three Women Who Ignited American Romanticism<\/a>,” won several awards including a Massachusetts Book Award in Nonfiction. Her second biography, “Margaret Fuller: A New American Life<\/a>,” won a Pulitzer Prize and a 2014 Massachusetts Book Award in Nonfiction. She has published numerous essays and reviews in The New Yorker<\/em>, The Atlantic<\/em>, Slate Online<\/em>, The New York Times Book Review<\/em>, The London Review of Books, The New Republic<\/em>, and The Boston Review<\/em>.<\/p>\n
