Professor says 19th-century politics offer lesson in settling division<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n<\/iframe>\nWhile the state of the economy may be driving voters to the polls for the Nov. 8 midterm election, in the background is an ongoing debate about whether U.S. democracy is in danger. On this episode of Challenge. Change.<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clarku.edu\/departments\/political-science\/\" aria-label=\"info on political science department\">political science<\/a> Professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.clarku.edu\/faculty\/facultybio.cfm?id=467\" aria-label=\"Robert Boatright bio\">Robert Boatright<\/a> examines a link between polarization in Congress today and the political conflict of the late 19th century.<\/p>\n“That’s an era where the country [was] almost evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, and we see some of the same problems we have now: contested elections, arguments over fraud and elections.
