New Department of Sustainability and Social Justice integrates experiential learning across the world<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n Environmental Science and Policy Professor Timothy Downs, center, is leading a three-year, National Science Foundation-funded project to help policymakers and the public collectively understand how much is at stake under climate change. Here, he and Professors Yelena Ogneva-Himmelberger and Morgan Ruelle stroll past Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral, which had been sinking and in danger of collapse until it was saved by major remedial engineering. Like many structures in Mexico City, the sinking was caused by the over-exploitation of the aquifer, a telltale sign of Mexico’s water crisis.\n<\/p>\n
The new Department of Sustainability and Social Justice integrates experiential learning throughout the curriculum through Global Learning Collaboratives, which include studio courses, international internships, community-engaged research, and long-term projects across the world.<\/p>\n
