Alumni panel discussion to explore paths in game design<\/p>\n

Years before artificial intelligence applications like ChatGPT went mainstream, Guy Pistone ’12, MBA ’15, began exploring how to leverage AI and machine learning while studying information systems as an MBA<\/a> student.<\/p>\n Guy Pistone ’12, MBA ’15\n

Pistone, a former semi-pro basketball player, tested ways to infuse AI into his favorite game. He launched two mobile applications, Elete and Fitivity, which grew into successful businesses and were sold to create Valere Labs, an award-winning innovation and software development company.<\/p>\n

Pistone, CEO of Valere Labs, and Ryan Canuel, co-founder and CEO of the game development company Petricore and a 2015 graduate of Becker College, are joining Becker School of Design & Technology<\/a> Dean Paul Cotnoir<\/a> on Feb. 7 for a panel discussion exploring the past, present, and future of game design.<\/p>\n

“Clark and the BSDT are committed to providing an education that is truly purpose-driven,” Cotnoir says. “These two graduates are excellent examples of the benefits that an experientially focused degree can provide.”<\/p>\n

Game design is a highly competitive industry poised to eclipse $240 billion this year, according to the data-gathering platform Statista. Pistone, known as a “serial entrepreneur,” has spent his career building successful applications recognized by Apple, Upwork, and The New York Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Canuel created Petricore right after graduating. The company has collaborated with global brands such as Mitsubishi and Meta and has created immersive experiences like Lens Detective for Snapchat and Sam and Max for HappyGiant. Petricore also produces experiences that embody Canuel’s passion for augmented reality and mixed reality like Horizon Worlds’ “Mob Quiz” and “Floodfill Dodgeball.” The company’s latest project is “Mythic Realms,” a game being developed for Meta Quest 3.<\/p>\n

“Being part of this event is a highlight for me. It’s a chance to reflect on how the game design program laid the groundwork for my career,” says Canuel. “I can’t wait to share my journey and learn from the experiences of others.”<\/p>\n

The panel, which is sponsored by Alumni and Friends Engagement, is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Feb.7 in Room 103\/104 of the Center for Media and Arts, Computing, and Design.<\/p>\n
