Clark University broke ground on its new university center — now called the Higgins University Center — during the 1989–1990 academic year. Here’s what the 1990 Pasticcio had to say.\n<\/p>\n
What now looks like devastation and disaster from Main Street will soon be Clark’s first and long-awaited University Center. Beyond the rubble and ruin promises new offices and an expanded General Store. Through the fences, one can begin to imagine lounges, a convenience shop, game rooms … Stretching from the middle of the campus to Maywood Street, students finally will have a place to study, to eat, to play, and to just be. Say goodbye to Jefferson International, and step into the nineties.<\/em><\/p>\nA PROMISING START…<\/em><\/p>\nSouth Main Dining Hall is Clark’s first glance into the new University Center. The spacious room boasts wooden tables and chairs engraved with the Clark emblem. With an expanded and improved menu, Clarkies now have options like they have never had before. Pizza, hamburgers, and stir fry are permanent entrees, in addition to the ever-changing daily menu. An expanded deli bar accompanies more beverage and cereal choices. [Food service provider] DAKA offers a money-back guarantee to students unsatisfied with any meal; just “React to Management.” Clark and DAKA seem to be making a real effort to cater to the students’ dining wishes. Although the tray drop-off area is inconvenient, and there are other small problems with this renovated gym, South Main is a promising start to an exciting University Center.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/body><\/html><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
