October 6, 2024, marks 50 years since Bruce Springsteen played a memorable show in Atwood Hall<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before he was born to run. Before he danced in the dark, or wandered into the badlands, or had an inkling of the glory days that still lay ahead of him, Bruce Springsteen performed a memorable concert in Atwood Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The date was October 6, 1974, when Clark welcomed the little-known New Jersey rocker and his E Street Band to the Atwood stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnstage, silhouetted dramatically by green light, the slight man (Springsteen) became a magician, deftly manipulating his band, his body and us, his audience,\u201d Ruth Rachel Polsky \u201976 wrote in her review of the show in The Scarlet<\/em>. \u201cWhen he jerked his hips to the left and to the right, a double-barreled drumroll and flashes of purple and red light occurred simultaneously, radiating to us in a wave of total sensuality. When his voice dropped to a husky, caressing whisper, we held our collective breath and rose with him to the crescendo on Clarence Clemons\u2019 ethereal sax.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
