Clark University senior Stephanie M. Richardson may place a new title on her photographic triptych “Image 4 and Image 62,” perhaps naming it “Image 1” after winning the top honor as best in show at the Colleges of Worcester Consortium Art Exhibition at the ARTSWorcester Aurora Gallery. The juried exhibition, which began in 2005, showcases the artistic talent of students in the area’s many colleges, including Anna Maria College, Worcester State University, College of the Holy Cross, Assumption College, and Becker College. This year, only 67 of 175 submitted art works were chosen to be juried. “This was my first time submitting to a juried show and I never expected that I would win top prize,” Richardson told a reporter for an article in the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. In addition to Richardson’s first place honor, three Clark students were among five runners-up at the exhibition, which runs through March 3. “I believe we find our place in the world by looking around,” Richardson said. “The work I submitted to the Consortium show is part of a larger piece that seeks to explore this relationship between identity and space by documenting my observations of the place where I grew up.”
* With a fellow Clark artist, Richardson is organizing “The Show about Toys,” an exhibition open to Clark and Worcester community artists in all media. That exhibit will be on display from February 27 until March 25. *
Richardson, of Methuen, majors in studio art major and is a member of the Fiat Lux honor society at Clark. Her extracurricular activities include intramural basketball. She also is a shop manager at Worcester Earn-a-Bike and works as a gallery intern for the Visual and Performing Arts Department. She has been active with the Clark Sustainability Initiative ad worked with fellow students who founded the Clark Bike Share program. A 2007 graduate of Central Catholic High school in Lawrence, Richardson is the daughter of Patricia and Jeffrey Richardson, of Methuen.
