Originally conceived as a library for Holocaust research, the range of titles broadened as the Center\u2019s mandate steadily expanded.&nbsp; It continues to grow, with book acquisitions and primary source archival materials including letters, diaries, manuscripts, newspapers, postcards, survivor testimonies and audio\/visual materials. Growing up in the midwest, the daughter of a Navy captain, she closely followed the events of the War in Europe. She was horrified reading about accounts of the Holocaust.&nbsp; After a varied career as an automotive journalist, an editor at&nbsp;<em>Esquire&nbsp;<\/em>Magazine, and a financial consultant, she began collecting books about the Holocaust and newspaper clippings on the subject.&nbsp; Reading about the founding of the Strassler Center, she inquired about donating her collection of 1,500 volumes.&nbsp; After that initial gift, she continued to meticulously research and collect books, donating 500-600 books annually.&nbsp; Ms. Bartley continued to purchase and donate books until her death in July, 2011.&nbsp; Today, the Bartley collection comprises over 7,000 books encompassing many genocides, and including Holocaust materials dating from 1933 to 1947.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull closer has-true-black-color has-light-blue-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-6e5858555b662083ad1453a63a63e492 is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"min-height:40vh\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-nowrap is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-6c531013 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-constrained wp-container-core-group-is-layout-e09bfac7 wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-top:0;padding-right:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20);padding-bottom:0;padding-left:var(--wp--preset--spacing--20)\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-vimeo wp-block-embed-vimeo wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Bartley Collection at the Rose Library (Clark University Video)\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/285671482?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hear-diana-bartley-s-story-in-her-own-words\">Hear Diana Bartley&#8217;s story in her own words.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"padding-bottom:0\">The Diana Bartley Book Collection, including thousands of books contributed over more than a decade, forms the spine of the Rose Library.
