He held postdoctoral fellowships at the Tottori Mycological Institute (Japan) and the Harvard University Herbaria. He joined the faculty of Clark Universty in 1999.<\/p>\n
Hibbett\u2019s scholarship focuses on evolutionary biology of fungi, particularly mushroom-forming fungi. His research encompasses molecular systematics and evolution, comparative genomics, developmental biology, and paleomycology. He is also interested in principles of biological classification, including rank-free taxonomy and DNA-based species description. Hibbett\u2019s research has been supported by the US National Science Foundation and the US Department of Energy. He has served as President of the Mycological Society of America and Executive Vice President of the Society of Systematic Biologists.
