She holds a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from Stanford, and a Ph.D. (2010) in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. A language and literacy scholar, she studies immigrant youth and their literacy and language practices in out-of-school and school-based settings. She has conducted longitudinal studies in Philadelphia and Bronx, NY where she investigated how first-generation immigrant students acquire academic discourses, and what cultural and linguistic resources they bring to their schooling. Currently, she is involved in a variety of research projects around teacher and youth-research, multicultural and multilingual curricula in high school classrooms, and the intersection of youth literacy, language, and identities. She is a recipient of the prestigious Spencer Foundation\/National Academy of Education Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, as well as Clark\u2019s Hodgkins\u2019 and Rosiland Roberts\u2019 Faculty Awards. Her most recent work has been published in <em>Anthropology and Education Quarterly<\/em>, the <em>Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy<\/em>, <em>English Education<\/em>, and the <em>International Journal of Multicultural Education<\/em>.
