He earned an undergraduate degree in chemistry at Williams College in 2004. He began graduate school in organic chemistry at Boston College, and then he complete his degree at Yale University with Scott Miller in 2009. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the field of chemical biology with David Spiegel at Yale, where he earned fellowships from the Yale Cancer Center and from the National Institute of Health. He began as an Assistant Professor at Clark University in 2012 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2018. He regularly teaches organic chemistry 1 &amp; 2 and the associated lab sections, as well as a variety of higher-level courses that include chemistry &amp; biology of medicine, synthetic organic chemistry, chromatography &amp; mass spectrometry, scientific writing &amp; communication, and scientific data analysis. He co-founded the university&#8217;s Health, Science &amp; Society program and served as it co-chair for four years. He chaired UAB, the university&#8217;s main committee on undergraduate academics, through the pandemic shutdown and reopening. As of 2024, Professor Jakobsche has more than 25 research publications that span a wide variety of chemistry sub-disciplines, and he has mentored research project experiences for more than 30 Clark students. He created DiscoverOChem.com, which is a free open-access interactive learning platform for learning organic chemistry.
