Dr. Geoghegan received a B.A. from Queens College, City University of New York in 1987, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and 1995, respectively. She has been at Clark since 1996.<\/p>\n
Geoghegan, currently Chair of the Economics Department, is affiliated with the\u00a0<\/span>George Perkins Marsh Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n Geoghegan has been a Visiting Fellow at the\u00a0<\/span>Lincoln Institute of Land Policy<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and\u00a0has served\u00a0as an Associate Editor for the\u00a0<\/span>American Journal of Agricultural Economics<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>and President for the\u00a0<\/span>Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association<\/a>.<\/p>\n Her research has been funded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the National Science Foundation,\u00a0the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (including a New Investigator Program award), and the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy.<\/p>\n Dr. Geoghegan specializes in teaching\u00a0environmental and natural resource economics at the undergraduate level\u00a0(ECON 257<\/a>) and spatial environmental analysis at the graduate level (ECON 359<\/a>), she also teaches a unique course entitled “Not Your Mother’s Home Economics:\u00a0 The Economics and Policy of Food” (ECON 258<\/a>), as well as principles of microeconomics (ECON 11<\/a>) and\u00a0 intermediate microeconomic theory (ECON 204\/205<\/a>).<\/p>\n Dr. Geoghegan’s early research focused on developing spatially explicit econometric models of land use change using Geographical Information System (GIS) data and technology. She has established three large interdisciplinary research projects in this broad area of inquiry:\u00a0 first,\u00a0at the University of Maryland, in a post-doctoral position, focusing on urban sprawl and agricultural land preservation in Maryland;\u00a0and subsequently two projects at Clark University, concentrating on agricultural development and tropical deforestation in Southern Mexico; and a project that investigates the urban renewal of the neighborhood surrounding Clark University in Worcester, MA. She continues to use spatial analysis in her recent research including investigation of healthy food access in Worcester, MA and Manhattan, NY as well as the locations of craft breweries in New England.
