He has been at Clark since 1979. Professor Munro was an original member of the Chicago Project and performed at the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Open Space in London and the Loeb Drama Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a Directing Fellow at the Center For Theatre Research at SUNY at Buffalo.<\/p>\n<p>In the early 1980s, Professor Munro adapted and directed four short stories by Raymond Carver as a production for the stage entitled<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>I Could See The Smallest Things<\/em>. It was after seeing this production that Mr. Carver waived the rights and gave permission to Munro to film one of his stories.<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Mr. Coffee and Mr. Fix-It<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>was shown nationally on television as part of<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Mixed Signals<\/em>, sponsored by the New England Foundation for the Arts. It toured museums throughout Great Britain. Munro went on to adapt and film another Carver story,<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Preservation<\/em>, broadcast on PBS in Chicago, and two other independent narratives. His most recent theatrical work includes<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Temptation<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>by Vaclav Havel,<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>All In The Timing<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>by David Ives, and<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Famine<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>by Tom Murphy, which was performed in remembrance of the victims of the famine in Ireland one-hundred and fifty years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times has described Raymond Munro\u2019s work as \u201csmart and sensitive\u201d with an \u201cexpert directorial hand.\u201d He has directed theatre productions in Poland, Luxembourg, Ireland and the United States. Though I received an individual grant, all theatre work is collaborative. I am fortunate to be working with my departmental colleagues Professor Stephen DiRado (cinematography) and Professor Matt Malsky ()  We composer) We started working with an early draft of a play written by internationally known playwright and satirist CJ Hopkins. The play is called The Simulation of Culture within the Mimetic Arts for the Enjoyment of the Bourgeoisie. Influenced somewhat by Deleuze and Guatarri, it focuses on questions of reality\\\/unreality and our growing inability to distinguish between the two in an increasing number of academic, political, and cultural venues.\\nThe first part of the project was C.J. Hopkins rewriting, updating, and adapting this play from a 2008 live theatre experience to a live Zoom performance for 2021 and beyond. This has been completed, and we are working with a  new script. Subsequently, there was the casting of professional performers Wyndham Maxwell and Eliza Ryan and the start of the rehearsal process. The rehearsal process includes collaborative meetings with C. J. Hopkins, Stephen Dirado, Matt Malsky and ongoing rehearsals with the actors. Besides the talents of Hopkins, Malsky, and DiRado, and the performers, we will depend on the technical acumen of David Krooshof of The Amsterdam Academy of the Arts. David is currently working on an art project utilizing innovative approaches to the Zoom medium. In our research and discussions so far, we have considered the artistic precedents in novels such as <\\\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">In Cold Blood<\\\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\"> by Truman Capote, <\\\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">The Executioner's Song<\\\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\"> by Norman Mailer, <\\\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">The Blair Witch Project,<\\\/span> <span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">The Gulf War Did Not Take Place<\\\/span><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\"> by Jean Baudrillard, concerning the first Iraq War and the false narratives of 'weapons of mass destruction\\u2019 leading to the second. This 'is it real or is it Memorex' conundrum has only increased in our time from the advances in Virtual Reality, the corporate interest in transhumanism, to the number of deaths of people engaging in Augmented Reality.<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">The voice-over at the top of the piece reveals the confusion of the audience\\\/viewer as they are unsure if the play has begun or if this even is the play.<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><br><br><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">A bell is rung.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">Signaling the bourgeoisie to take their seats.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">Their numbered seats.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">Numbered left to right in lettered rows.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">They do so.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">Gradually.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">There is some slight confusion.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">A voice is speaking to them.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">An unfamiliar voice.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">Speaking directly to them.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">Nor have the lights been lowered.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">A voice is speaking to them and the lights have not been lowered. Therefore it cannot be the piece.\\u00a0<\\\/span><\\\/p>\\n<p><span style=\\\"font-weight:400;\\\">It is some kind of opening announcement or remark. Maybe you agree that it seems like Zoom for meetings and classes already has an innate sense of the not quite real?
