Historian and sociologist Taner Ak\u00e7am received his doctorate in 1995 from the University of Hanover, with a dissertation on The Turkish National Movement and the Armenian Genocide Against the Background of the Military Tribunals in Istanbul Between 1919 and 1922<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Ak\u00e7am was born in the province of Ardahan, Turkey, in 1953. He became interested in Turkish politics at an early age. As the editor-in-chief of a student political journal, he was arrested in 1976 and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. Amnesty International adopted him as a prisoner of conscience. A year later, he escaped to Germany, where he received political asylum.<\/p>\n

In 1988 he started working as Research Scientist in Sociology at the Hamburg Institute for Social Research. His first research topic was the history of political violence and torture in the late Ottoman Empire and early Republic of Turkey.<\/p>\n

Between 2000 and 2002 Ak\u00e7am was Visiting Professor of History at University of Michigan. He worked also as Visiting Associate Professor at the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at University of Minnesota. Ce livre rouvre le dossier.\\nEn v\\u00e9ritable enqu\\u00eateur, Taner Ak\\u00e7am s'est en effet lanc\\u00e9 dans une minutieuse analyse de ces m\\u00e9moires et des t\\u00e9l\\u00e9grammes qu'ils contiennent. Aus diesen geht hervor, dass es systematische Verbrechen der osmanischen Regierung gegen die Armenier mit dem Ziel ihrer vollst\\u00e4ndigen Ausl\\u00f6schung gegeben hat. Es wird verschwiegen, umgedeutet, historische Quellen und kritische Stimmen werden diskreditiert. Ein beredtes Beispiel hierf\\u00fcr stellt der Umgang mit den sogenannten \\u00bbTalat Pascha-Telegrammen\\u00ab dar. Behauptet wird, dass diese Dokumente von armenischer Seite gef\\u00e4lscht worden seien, um die T\\u00fcrkei zu diskreditieren. Dem bekannten Historiker Taner Ak\\u00e7am ist es in seinem aktuellen Buch, das als ein Meilenstein in der Aufarbeitung dieses Genozids und von dessen Historizit\\u00e4t gelten kann, gelungen, diese Thesen zu widerlegen und die Echtheit der \\u00bbTalat Pascha-Telegramme\\u00ab nachzuweisen.
