has-text-align-left\">Experiential learning in action<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-improving-access-to-education\">Improving access to education<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left is-style-intro has-medium-font-size\">Political science major, Turna Barua \u201926 grew up appreciating the beauty and cultural heritage \u2014but also the stark economic disparities of her family\u2019s home in Rangamati, Bangladesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">She saw parents working to give their children better lives, while never getting the chance to pursue their own education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group stagger-left no-gap section is-layout-grid wp-container-core-group-is-layout-b1956cf1 wp-block-group-is-layout-grid\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group goods has-white-color has-gray-800-background-color has-text-color has-background has-link-color wp-elements-41c885b6fe470d40b869e4052924fc8e is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\"><div style=\"color:inherit\" class=\"eyebrow  has-text-align-left\">idea<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3c4641ff254416315e8bd563155232f0\">Supported by a <strong>Projects for Peace grant<\/strong>, Turna developed and launched an education initiative called <em>Egiye Jao<\/em>, or Go Ahead, offering evening classes in math and English to parents in Rangamati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Turna recruited local college students to serve as program teachers, training them in culturally sensitive communication practices and peace-building facilitation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover has-custom-content-position supplies to take home to their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to providing access to education, Turna created a space for people to feel seen, heard, and valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p aboard the CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier, to study rapidly changing Arctic ecosystems through the Distributed Biological Observatory.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column
