SUMMARY:The Armenian Woman\, Minoritarian Agency\, and the Making of Iranian Modernity\, 1860–1979
DESCRIPTION:Speakers: \nHouri Berberian (Professor of History & Meghrouni Family Presidential Chair in Armenian Studies\, School of Humanities. Director of the Center for Armenian Studies)Talinn Grigor (Professor of Art and Architectural History\, Modern and Contemporary Global Architecture and Art Critical\, Race\, Feminist\, and (post) Colonial Theory) \nHouri Berberian and Talinn Grigor offer the first history of Armenian women in modern Iran. Foregrounding the work of Armenian women’s organizations\, the authors trace minoritarian politics and the shifting relationships among doubly minoritized Armenian female subjects\, Iran’s central nodes of power\, and the Irano-Armenian patriarchal institutions of church and political parties. \nEngaging broader considerations around modernization\, nationalism\, and feminism\, this book makes a conceptually rich contribution to how we think about the history of women and minoritized peoples. Berberian and Grigor read archival\, textual\, visual\, and oral history sources together and against one another to challenge conventional notions of “the archive” and transform silences and absences into audible and visual presences. Understanding minoritarian politics as formulated by women through their various forms of public and intellectual activisms\, they provide a groundbreaking intervention in Iran’s history of modernization\, Armenian diasporic history\, and Iranian and Armenian feminist historiography. \nSponsored by the Friends of Robert Aram and Marianne Kaloosdian and Stephen and Marian Mugar Professor in Armenian Genocide Studies

SUMMARY:Public History Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION CLOSED — TOUR FULL \n\n\n\nMusicians\, manufacturers\, a laundress and a Swedish immigrant — the history of this neighborhood is remarkable not just because of its many examples of distinctive architecture\, but because of the colorful stories of the men and women who initially shaped it. Join students in Clark’s Public History course for a walking tour that takes us back in time to the Gilded Age of the late 19th century. Hear about the homes\, their inhabitants\, and the community’s change over time!  \n\n\n\nThe tour is part of Preservation Worcester’s Jane Week programming. Jane Week — named for Jane Jacobs\, an urban theorist and activist who championed a community-based approach to city building — gives Worcester residents and visitors a chance to connect to each other\, explore Worcester by foot and participate in interesting discussions on how we can enhance the design and function of our city.

This does not include siblings. \n\n\n\n**The student is not necessarily the first in their family to go to college as defined above\, but typically navigates college like many other first-generation college students due to self-identifying as not having prior exposure to or knowledge of navigating higher education.
