SUMMARY:Antisemitism in American Law and Life
DESCRIPTION:22 January 2026 | 4:00pm | Higgins LoungeDana Commons \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nJonathan Feingold (Professor of law at Boston University School of Law and co-host of the #RaceClass Podcast. Prof. Feingold is an expert in affirmative action\, critical race theory\, education law\, and anti-discrimination law. Much of his scholarship explores how right-wing groups in the United States have co-opted civil rights laws and discourse to undermine civil rights.) \n\n\n\n Marjorie N. Feld (Professor of history at Babson College where she teaches courses on U.S. social history\, gender\, labor\, and food justice. Her first book\, Lillian Wald: A Biography won the Saul Viener Book Prize of the American Jewish Historical Society. Feld’s most recent book\, The Threshold of Dissent: A History of American Jewish Critics of Zionism\, was named one of NPR’s “Books We Love” for 2024.  In Fall 2025\, Feld was a Fellow at the Katz Center for Advanced Judaic Studies at the University of Pennsylvania.)   \n\n\n\nAntisemitism has become a point of intense contention and division in our world. When does free speech cross over into discrimination? How can law help to define and mitigate antisemitism without slipping into efforts to curtail political dissent? How should antisemitism be distinguished from criticisms of Israel and of Zionism? This panel will explore the legal and political consequences of recent debates about antisemitism\, as well as key moments in history that have shaped the current context. The panel will feature Marjorie Feld (Babson College) and Jonathan Feingold (Boston University). Frances Tanzer (Clark) will moderate the discussion.  \n\n\n\nSponsored by the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies
