Rough Weather Ahead: How Climate Change is Making Our Weather More Extreme
2020 will go down as a bizarre year, not only for the pandemic and its many cascading impacts, but also for the rash of extreme weather events around the globe. In most of the U.S., winter was largely in absentia (except for Alaska, which experienced record cold). Spring brought record rains to the eastern third of the country with opposite conditions in the west. Summer has been brutally hot and dry in many western states, while a supercharged hurricane season threatens the Atlantic seaboard. Can we point a finger at climate change? And in particular, what does the melting Arctic have to do with it?
