Clark Esports and Highlights – 11/8

Welcome to the final week of NECC regular season play this semester!

Before we break it down, there was another Smash bi-weekly tournament in JC 001 this past Saturday! If you’re interested, make sure to stop by the next one, scheduled for November 19th!

League of Legends

Grey (3-3): With League Red having to reschedule their matches, Grey picked up the slack in week 7, defeating QU Highlanders in reverse sweep fashion. This much-needed win all but secured them a playoff position. Before that, they have two matches remaining on their schedule, one against the MCCC Mustangs this Wednesday.

Chromatic (5-2): Chromatic put up a hard fight against top-seeded Ashland University, but fell one game short as they dropped the match 1-2. They can still lock up a top-four seed in playoffs for the Navigators Mideast division with a win over Waynesburg.

Obsidian (5-2): League Obsidian picked up another W via forfeit over uOttawa Red, as they move to 5-2 on the year. They’ll close out the semester against the NJCU Gothic Knights (6-1). If they take home the victory, they could start off the playoffs as the first seed.

Pearl (0-7): Clark Pearl suffered a tough loss against Ithaca College last week. They’ll try to close out their season on a high note against the Post Eagles.

Overwatch 2

Red (5-1): After getting off to a scorching hot 5-0 start, Overwatch Red finally dropped their first match to SNHU Sapphire. They’ve secured a playoff spot but will try to fight for first seed with games against uOttawa Garnet and St. Clair Saints Academy, both of whom are undefeated.

Grey (3-3): Overwatch Grey continues their steady transition to the new game with another 1-1 week. They inched out the MCCC Mustangs in a 3-2 affair while falling to RPI B in three straight maps. Already securing a playoff spot, they’ll look to improve their seeding with matches against Howard Community College and SUCO Ruby.

Obsidian (7-0): The last undefeated Overwatch team at Clark just keeps on rolling as they take down both the Finlandia Lions and second-seeded Champlain Teal by a combined map score of 6-0. Midway and Rio Grande are all that’s standing between Obsidian and an undefeated split.

Chromatic (1-5): In the same division as Obsidian, Overwatch still has a chance to clinch a playoff spot after falling to Rio Grande last week. They have three matches remaining, as they’ll face off against Catawba Blue, SUCO Rouge, and Midway, respectively.

Rocket League

Red (4-3): Rocket League had a hard-fought battle with Worcester-rival Assumption, but ultimately lost in the fifth and final game. They’re still in great position to clinch a top-four seed in the Emergents Atlantic division with their season finale against the University of New Haven Academy.

Grey (3-4): Grey suffered a tough defeat as well, with the MCCC Mustangs edging them out 3-2. Despite the loss, they have clinched a playoff spot and could place as high as fourth with a win over undefeated Alvernia Maroon on Friday.

Valorant

Red (1-6): Valorant Red couldn’t close the job after taking the first map against uOttawa Black, losing the subsequent two and dropping to 1-6 on the season. To make playoffs, they’re facing a must-win situation in their season finale versus SNHU Yellow.

Grey (6-0): Grey continues to show up against tough competition and keep their undefeated streak, defeating SUCO Crimson B in straight games. They’ll face off against Lees-McRae and SUNY Potsdam as they go for the 8-0.

Chromatic (5-2): Chromatic took down both RMU and Marian last week, moving to 5-2 on the year! In a key match against GV Black, they’ll look to solidify themselves as the third seed in their division.

Hearthstone (3-5): The Hearthstone squad ended their season with a 1-1 week, defeating the University of Illinois Chicago after falling to the University of Utah 2-3. Congrats on a great season!

Rainbow Six

Red (5-1): The Rainbow Six boys were on a bye week, but don’t forget to support them as they enter their final game before playoffs against SIUE Black! This could be a potential first-round opponent, so keep an eye out for this matchup!

Continue to support all of these teams as they make their respective runs into playoffs!
