A Message from Prof. Denis Larochelle Regarding COVID-19 and Its Impact on Health Professions Applications

A message from Professor Denis Larochelle, Director of Prehealth Advising:

Dear Prehealth Students,

In these times of uncertainty it is important that you focus first and foremost on your health and safety.  In this email you will find information about issues that may be of importance to you as you plan for the future.  These are very fluid times and things are changing rapidly.  As they do I will do my best to continue to update you.  If you have specific questions about how various schools and programs are planning to handle the pass/fall option or online courses, it is best to check directly with the programs you anticipate applying to.  Regarding the P/F option, there is no universal consensus as to whether or not programs will accept these (for this semester only; most schools do not accept P/F grades for required courses).  Since Clark is giving each student the choice between a letter grade and P/F, it would be best to continue with the letter grade option and to do your best.  This pertains to prerequisite courses.  I believe most, if not all, programs will accept online instruction for this semester.  Again, this is something that is generally not accepted by most programs.  As for shadowing and other volunteer or internship opportunities that may be cancelled or postponed, at this point there is not much that can be done.  We are all in this together and admissions committees will understand.  If you are planning to take a standardized test in the near future, you should check directly with the company administering the test for updates.  Do use this time wisely and continue to prepare.  Below, are a number of links and other bits of information you will hopefully find useful.  The best policy is to do your best and hope for the best.  This is a great opportunity to demonstrate resiliency and adaptability.  Stay the course.  We will all get through this.  If you have any specific questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to me.

Take care,
Prof. Larochelle
