ARISE
ARISE’s “Refugee Advocate” program aims to engage college students as Refugee Advocates to support the smooth transition process for refugee families. ARISE believes in carrying out this crucial task by developing a meaningful relationship between a refugee family and a refugee advocate. To achieve that, one Refugee Advocate will be assigned to one family who will act as a consistent point of contact for the family to support them during the transition period. Advocates must complete an 8-hour ARISE training session, commit to at least 6 months (one semester) of service, and submit biweekly progress reports alongside monthly virtual check-ins.
ARISE seeks to empower refugees and immigrants by teaching self-advocacy through individualized services geared toward self-reliance. ARISE strongly believes that refugees and immigrants enrich their communities with new perspectives and talents and should be considered resources.
