Major:<\/strong> Environmental Science<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clark Days:<\/strong> When Everett Beals visited Clark as a prospective student, he got the impression that people were genuinely interested in learning more about him. From the moment he stepped on campus as a student, he returned the favor as a writer and eventual editor-in-chief of The Scarlet, getting to know people and asking questions about campus happenings to keep readers informed. Through his environmental science classes, he has learned that his greatest interests lie in urban and sustainability planning, a growing field that is critical to municipalities of all sizes as they face the changing climate. Beals also spent three years working with Professor Michael Carolan, researching and writing about an environmental disaster that took place in Missouri in the 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Post-Commencement Plans:<\/strong> Beals will return to Clark this fall to pursue a master\u2019s in environmental science and policy<\/a> through the Department of Sustainability and Social Justice<\/a>, with the ultimate goal of applying his environmental science background to urban and sustainability planning. \u201cAnd I always have journalism in my back pocket.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reflection:<\/strong> \u201cClark was a really good place for me to grow, learn as a person, and try new things. Worcester did that for me, and part of it is just being in this community. Having my assumptions challenged and my worldview turned upside down \u2014 every single class has taught me something.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
