Developing Accurate Land Cover Change Maps

MapBiomas is a multi-institutional initiative involving NGOs, universities, think-tanks and tech companies dedicated to developing the most advanced, complete, and detailed time series of annual land cover and land use change maps in Brazil. Marsh Institute researcher Robert (Gil) Pontius (Geography) recently received funding from Instituto Humanize for the project Methods and Software to Understand and Build the MapBiomas Data, which will develop new software methods to better explain transitions among land cover categories for MapBiomas in order to support and advance sustainable management and conservation of natural resources.
