What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?<\/summary>\n

Math 120, 121 (Calculus I, II), or their Honors equivalents: Math 124, 125. You can also
take one of the math FYI courses such as Math 112, or Math 113, as well as an education class if available.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?<\/summary>\n

We highly recommend you take either Honors Calculus I (preferable) or Calculus I in your first semester. If you received a 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus AB exam, which counts for MATH 120, it is recommended you take MATH 121 or MATH 125 in your first semester. If you received a 4 or 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam, which counts for both
MATH 120 and MATH 121 (but as a half unit each), we recommend you take a different MATH course to get a sense of what the major offers in your first semester.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?<\/summary>\n

Sophomore year. The major requires 15 courses to be fulfilled, and it will be difficult to complete the major if you have not completed the MATH 120\/121 or EDUC 152 courses before junior year.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go
well with this major?<\/summary>\n

Economics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, Actuarial & Financial Math Minor all complement our major.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?<\/summary>\n

Mathematics Education complements the above majors very nicely, in addition to being a standalone major.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n
