What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?<\/summary>\n

Every major within the School of Business, including the Business Economics major, requires
the completion of the same 6 courses. We recommend you take two of the
following classes to discover if Business Economics is the right major for you: MGMT 100,
BAN 104, ACCT 101, BCOM 170, QBUS 110, ECON 010 (though ECON 010 is the best
course for an intro to the Business Economics program).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Business Economics also includes the requirement of one math class, from Pre-Calculus to Calculus II, which we recommend taking in your first semester if possible.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?<\/summary>\n

While we do feel that ECON 010 or MGMT 100 would be the best classes to take in the first semester, any of the above-mentioned classes would be a good fit in your first semester. Should you receive a 4 or 5 on the AP Macroeconomics or Microeconomics exams, they will take the place of the ECON 010 or ECON 011 course in our major. Additionally, getting a 4 or 5 on the Calculus AB or BC exam will count towards your math requirement of either MATH 120 or MATH 120\/MATH 121.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?<\/summary>\n

For Business Economics, students can start the major classes and declare their major by the end of the first semester of their sophomore year and still finish as this major as it requires 16 classes to be completed. <\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?<\/summary>\n

Business pairs with absolutely every major! Understanding how businesses operate and how to manage people is a skill everyone can use. However, we have a lot of students pairing their major with the Economics, Psychology, and Interactive Media program.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?<\/summary>\n

All of our majors share a common business core. Students do not need to know what specific focus area of business they want to study. They should start taking some of the business core classes, and that will expose them to the subjects to help them decided their specific major. Also, studying business is not all about maximizing profits for companies! These skills are needed in non-profit, for-profit, governmental, social services, ALL organizations. Our students go on to a large variety of careers.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n
