What courses should I take in my first year to see if this is the right major for me?<\/summary>\n

Any of our 100-level Art History courses would be a helpful first look into what our major can offer. However, we highly recommend ARTH 101, which will be offered in the spring semester, as that is our introductory course and is a great opportunity to check out the major.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

Are there any courses I am required or strongly encouraged to take in my first semester if I know I want to declare this major? Do any AP credits count for these requirements?<\/summary>\n

In the first semester, there are no required courses – we just encourage students to take any 100-level course. Also, getting a 4 or 5 on the Art History AP exam will count towards our major.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What is the latest semester that I can start this major and still graduate in four years?<\/summary>\n

It is challenging to start this major later than spring of sophomore year and still graduate as we require 12 courses for our major (not including your Core requirements). As long as you’ve taken 3-4 classes by the spring of sophomore year, you will be fine.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

I am interested in many different subjects. What other majors, minors, or concentrations go well with this major?<\/summary>\n

Most of our students’ double major, because art intersects with all walks of life. Recent double majors include: Interactive Media & Design, History, English, Studio Art, Psychology, Geography, Philosophy, German, and Spanish.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n

What else do you want incoming first year students to know about this major?<\/summary>\n

The Art History major gives you a distinctive way of understanding cultures across time and across the globe, and gives you an intellectual passport that will allow you to engage at a deeper level with any community in which you find yourself. It teaches you multiple levels of information literacy. At Clark, we’re lucky to have the Worcester Art Museum, a world-class museum, as our home-ground teaching collection – we use it for every class.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n\n\n
