Workshop Aims (and structure)

 The general aim of this one-day workshop is to become more familiar with ways narratives can be used for the analysis of identity and subjective (lived) experience. To this end the workshop will cover different methods of collecting, transcribing and analyzing narratives.

• We will start in the morning with a brief overview of the following three approaches:

    n      Biography (Life Story) method

    o       Research interviews that aim to elicit extended life-stories

    n      Life Event method

    o       Research methods that target particular experiences, turning points of life events

    n      Small Stories method

    o       Everyday stories – shared in interviews, discussion groups or non-research settings

• Followed by a group discussion of the latter two approaches, Life Events and Small Stories. To this end, we will discuss two video-taped stories in the morning and break into smaller groups in the afternoon to discuss more examples.
