This chapter covers some background and issues faced by Advanced Micro Devices' enviromental and operations function in managing green supply chain management initiatives. Advanced Micro Devices is one of the world's largest semiconductor and electronics parts manufacturers. In it's initiatives world class supplier (WCS) teams take charge of many of the environmental initiatives that focus on suppliers. Included in practices are supplier audits, selection, and management with respect to environmental issues. Some of the advantages and difficulties associated with these programs are discussed in this case study chapter.
